GI Chari

Jace was looking through the toybox and came running out with a GI Joe in his hand, shouting excitedly, “Mom!!  Look!  It’s Chari!”  You know, my 5′9″ Amazonian sister with long blond hair who gets voted “MVP” of all the sports teams?

It looks JUST LIKE HER!!

For the Love of Lists

I know I wrote my last post like 10 minutes ago, but I just came across this awesome compilation of book lists and I had to share!

Also, I always make fun of my older sister, Lia, because she and her husband are such ridiculous academics.  They read the most dry, boring, books, such as the Life of Pi.  Well, I finally broke down and started to read it and it is SOOOOO good!  I can’t put it down!  I guess I owe Lia an apology on that one, but I daresay I will never have to recant for making fun of her favorite book of all time: The History of the Printing Press.

The Big Family Reunion in Idaho

This past weekend was so much fun!  After work on Thursday, Trevor and I took off and drove 16 hours through the night to get to the Wheeler Family Reunion in Idaho.  The Wheelers are Trevor’s maternal grandmother’s family.  We had so much fun!  Trevor’s great great grandparents had seven daughters and each of them had like a million kids so there were sooooooooo many people there!  It was held at the home they grew up in the middle of nowhere– Antelope Idaho– and it was beautiful!  It was this huge ranch with a pond, cows, forest– AWESOME!  Everyone brought tents or campers and used the outhouses– haha.  Really gross!  We stayed with Brooke and Steve in Rexburg and drove about 45 minutes each morning to make it back.  It was sooooo nice to sleep in a bed and shower every day while everyone else stank to high heavens (thanks Brooke and Steve)!

We pretty much just played millions of games, ate awesome food, attempted pranks, and had a blast.  My favorite day was the second night where all the older kids (Trevor and I are included that group although we are 24…) stayed up until 3 o’clock playing crazy games.  One in particular– you go out into the middle of nowhere where it is completely black and then you form a circle and put someone in the center and they spin as fast as they can 20 times and then you grab them and shine a flashlight in their face and they go CRAZY!  You immediatly fall down and can’t control your movements!  I thought everyone was faking until I did it and it is seriously the most psycho thing!  You have to try it!  It was also fun to play “Yo Mamma and Who’s Yo Daddy!!!??”  too fun!

I also loved Church the next day– we had Relief Society and then testimony meeting in nature.  It was sooooo awesome to hear all the stories about Great Grandma Wheeler– she was an amazing lady and I know we would have been best friends had she still been alive.

The reunion ended after testimony meeting, so Trevor, Jace and I took off to the Grand Tetons in Wyoming.  It was BEAUTIFUL!!  We were headed to Yellowstone, but then decided we better head back to Arizona because the drive would be 20 hours by that point and Trevor had work the next day.  Bummer!  We picked Mom Chapman up in SLC and then spent the night at our aparmtnet in Provo (we were just too tired after four days of no sleep).  We had a blast talking with mom that night.  The next morning I dropped her off in SLC so she could go to her Call Girl Reunion with her sisters and mom and then Trevor and I took off to Arizona for the rest of the summer.  It was so fun to see everyone!  It was a great weekend!

**UPDATE** Interesting Socialism Parallel

**UPDATE:  I wanted to update this post I put up yesterday.  No, I do not think Obama has a plan of socialism like we are commonly accustomed to (i.e. Russia’s political policies).  The percentage of American corporate and business assets not held by the U.S. governemnt is $39.2 trillion, while the percentage of American corporate and business assets recently nationalized by the U.S. governemnt is $82.3 billion.  That is 99.79% for the private sector and .21% for the government.  Clearly we are not a socialist state.  That does not, however, mean we do not have parallells or are slowly moving towards a higher diversion between the commonly held ideas of capitalism and socialism.  This article very much echos my thoughts on the whole debate.**

I got this over e-mail and checked it out at snopes.com.  It turns out this is just a legend and they don’t think it really happened, but the principle behind it is still very good:

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had once failed an entire class.

——————————————–

That class had insisted that Obama’s socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, “OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama’s plan”.

All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.
The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D!
No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that.

Kickin’ it Gangsta

Trevor had like 1,000 of these super cool hats made to give away when he was at parties promoting his company (www.summersalesbus.com).  Trevor always wears them and whenever he leaves one where Jace can reach it, Jace immediately snatches it up and parades around the house “being cool”.

Yesterday he found one was within his reach, so he put it on, brought me the camera, and asked me to take pictures of him “being cool”.  He then wanted to take pics of me in the hat being cool (he is a pretty good little photographer!).  He is SOOOOOO STINKIN’ CUTE!!!  Look at that lip extension!  hahaha!

Facing the Giants– Awesome Clip!

Trevor came across this yesterday when he was looking for inspiration for one of the teams out here.  I love it!!!!

I am going to be in the Ensign!

Remember Lonni Clarke’s painting of Mary and the donkey that I was the model for?  Well, she just got the call from the Church– it has been chosen to be on the inside back cover of the December Ensign and Liahona!  Isn’t that SOOOOOOO cool?!  I am so excited!!!
