Goodbye Florida!

It is official– we have moved from Florida.  Well, at least 2/3 of our family has.  Yesterday Trevor and I packed up all our stuff (it only took like 4 hours to completely move!  I LOVE not having a bunch of stuff!) and then took off to the beach to enjoy one last day there.  It was bitterly cold (which made it easier for me to leave!) but beautiful none the less.   We then came home, pulled the mattress out into the front room, and then just watched movies and played all night long because Jace and I were to fly out the next day and Trevor would stay in Florida for another two weeks to finish everything up– we didn’t want to waste any time sleeping when we wouldn’t be with each other for 2 weeks!

At 6 AM we went to the airport, said our goodbyes, and then 7 hours later we arrived in Vegas to play with our Chapman family until Saturday!  Oh Jace was SOOOOO good on the plane.  He slept for both flights and for the 2 hour layover in between– a total of 9 hours!  I am going to keep him up all night before every flight.  It was WONDERFUL!  And someone sent me a bottle of wine on the plane– “Compliments of the adoring young man in seat 11A”.  Ha!

Mom, Bryan, and Sierra picked us up from the airport, and I was a zombie after not sleeping for 48 hours so we got home and I went to sleep and they played with Jace.  Jace LOVES his Grandpa, Grandma, and Aunts and Uncle!  He is in absolute heaven!  They take such great care of him and play with him to his little heart’s content.   I am so excited to be here– I LOVE playing with my Chapman family!!!!  I miss Trevor ALREADY and it hasn’t even been a day!  We will see how long our seperation lasts.  I am expecting him on the doorstep by Saturday– there’s no way he will last for two weeks.  Our time in Florida was SO much fun and we are TOTALLY moving back– we are planning on moving to the keys once Trevor graduates next April.  HOORAY!

Jace Has a Blog

Well, Jace has been pestering me and pestering me for the longest time, so I finally broke down and got him his very own blog.  He wants his own place to share his thoughts, opinions, and day to day happenings with the world on his own blog instead of the family blog.  Toddlers– they’re all the same.  So here he is in all his glory.  He’s so cute!

Lia and Justin had their BABY!

Congratulations to Lia and Justin!  They had their third little baby girl yesterday!  We don’t have any pics yet, but you can check out the whole story here.  WE ARE SO EXCITED!

These are cute

Here are some lovely things I am going to make with my little sister and brothers when I get home.  So cute!

Business & The Good Life

I’m a weathered business man. I found out this weekend. I was sent a financial breakdown authored by two soon-to-be budding millionaires. No doubt visions of designer suits, briefcases, meetings and first-class flights fill their heads. I know, I’ve been there.

Everything is bigger than life in the beginning.

These two guys budgeted in $1,000 for office chairs. How many employees? Two. Now, in all fairness, the chairs would be a tax write off; however, perhaps I’ve learned a bit of “reality” during this last contract we’ve had.

In the beginning, all that one’s company exists as is a handful of business cards. As it buds and develops it takes root, and the roots ground one’s thinking. The company takes shape and starts to accumulate, what I call, substance. It becomes so much more than just the facade of business, the facade you so desperately are excited to mimic in the beginning, through the chairs and checks and business phone plans.

“Should my business cards say, ‘Owner’ or ‘Founder’,” I remember asking.

Well, I’m happy to say that the roller-coaster ride never slows nor loses its excitement - yet, at the same time it gives perspective, vision, and the irreplaceable ‘experience.’ It reminds me of a quote I used in my champion extemporaneous-commentary that I took state with my senior year.

You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know. Rene Daumal

Running and owning a company that will make it or break it based on your merits alone offers insight into oneself that, I’ve found, is hard to gain elsewhere.

All this talk brings one to a few questions about the manner of life one ought to live, or, the good life. This topic is touched on in the audio clip below. If you’re interested in the whole clip, let me know in the comments. Also, I’d be interested to know what you think as pertaining to the good life as described in the audio. Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Best place to buy a plane ticket

Trevor and I went to Europe for $450 each, then to Jamaica for $240 each and then to Costa Rica for $180 each.  It’s not hard to find cheap tickets - it’s all about when you travel.

This is the BEST website for finding cheap flights. It is Farecast and it’s awesome because it will give you a 30 day projection to tell you which day is the cheapest to fly and whether rates are projected to rise or drop for that particular trip. You can even put in a “Fare Alert” and they will e-mail you when they find the flight you want at the price you have specified.

I go nowhere else to fulfill my travel needs. I love it. Check it out.

Trevor’s comment. Too bad Microsoft bought it, huh?
