Our Weekend Date & Dinner With The Family

Yesterday we had a great date and today we had a wonderful dinner with the Collings and Jini. Caci can’t wait to write about it, so the abdomen of this blog is hers. Ill place my final remarks in the toe-jam section.

Trevor’s friend owns this wedding video business and was renting Trevor’s camera, so we drove up to the Salt Lake temple to give them the camera and play in Salt Lake for the day. I have never been to the Salt Lake Temple, or a live section, so I was really excited to go through. However, Trevor felt really uncomfortable going through with his shaggy hair so we were driving all over Salt Lake trying to find a barber shop to cut his hair before we went in. We could not find one ANYWHERE—the only one we found was one that cost $30 (obviously that was not going to work)! So, we decided to get his hair cut in Provo and then come back up again this Tuesday to try again when we had more time. So, we spent the rest of the day shopping. We then came back down to Provo and headed to the Wilk to see what was going on. Nothing. So we went to this place where local bands play called “Starry Night”. However, it should be called “Scary Night” because it was terrifying with all these drugged out hippies laying all over the place. Thus, we opted for a different activity. Instead we picked up a hot and ready pizza at Little Caesars then went to the Creamery on 9th to eat it and watch all the freshman flirt with each other. It was very amusing.

Today Trevor got his calling—he is going to be an Elders Quorum teacher. However, we move in 2 months and the Elders Quorum teachers teach once every 4 weeks, so he will teach once—sad! We then came home and made a bunch of cookies to take to Trevor’s families, and then our home teachers came over. Trevor was vicious and told them that we have a tradition in our family that every time we get new home teachers we ask them to sing “Love At Home” while Trevor accompanies on the guitar and I video tape. They both were really good sports and did their best. IT WAS SO FUNNY!!!!! They were a little annoyed/bugged/embarrassed when we told them we were just kidding. It was so funny—they are good guys!

Then we went over to Lia and Justin’s for dinner. Lia told me in advance that we were having homemade pizza and I was to bring the toppings for the second pizza. I thought I would be clever and bring the toppings for a truly unique and gourmet pizza—not like the regular marinara and pepperoni I thought Lia was putting on. So I showed up with “Creamy Garlic Alfrado Sauce” and garlic baked chicken. However, turns out LIA made a “Creamy Alfredo Sauce” and spinach pizza! Great minds think alike, I guess! We had a fun time visiting with them and Jini for the evening and watching Julia be a dolly. We were delighted to find that our ingenious plan worked—ever since we gave her that Tickle Me Elmo she has LOVED us!! Every other word she said was “Caci” and she was hugging us and playing with us, and took an avid interest in us. It made our lives! Whoever said money couldn’t buy you happiness never gave Julia an Elmo!

I got really excited when I got an email inviting me to this. I am passing it on to all who are interested. Most likely, nobody who reads this will take part in it…oh well. Thats life though right?

Mirror Making!

When Caci and I were in St. George not long after our honeymoon, we headed out to DI, where we found a mirror. Caci wanted it so badly. We got it. I thought that it looked like a tiki man. The frame was 3/4 the size of the mirror with some huge honkin’ tiki-man-like protrusion at the top. For months we have had that with us. Well, yesterday we finally decided to do something with it - re-frame the tiki. Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures of the tiki-man!?

DAY ONE:We took off to Home Depot, found some good-lookin crown molding that we were planning on making it out of, but alas! It was too expensive for Caci’s blood! So we saved a buck and got some cheaper - but just as nice - molding from pine. We cut out the dimensions we needed there at Home Depot. Caci took a try at one of the cuts and broke out a sweat. Good Girl!
Upon arrival at our abode, Caci furiosly dashed about looking for the staple gun as I sanded the edges of our piece frame. Finally, after an all-out search for the staple gun that never showed itself - we went back to Home Dept and bought one. **Note ** Trevor is also writing an essay worth 30% of his grade in his history class throughout all of this. ** After wood-glueing the frame together we started stapling each piece of the the four-pieced frame one to another. After stapling all four corners and finishing my essay we retired to bed.
DAY TWO: After waking up and attending to our normal necessities, we spray painted the thing out by the dumpster. That was Caci’s favorite part. I got in trouble with the cops because Caci would spray paint the backs of runners and passer-byers!?!
After a full day of school we returned home and started at it - this time with ** Caci working on an essay. ** (see how well we multi-task!) After stapling a very hard compressed board to the back of the frame with the mirror underneath it, and supporting it through various means which only a college mind can concieve we finally hung it up!!

During the process, I sliced my ring finger pretty badly. For pictures of that, and many more of the actual creation of this mirror, please view our online photo album of this endeavor here.
It looks great and we LOVE it! That doesn’t mean that we are a bit afraid to sit on the futon now! Look at our beautiful mirror!

This picture doesn’t really give it justice…it is HUGE!
It weighs 23 lbs!

Idaho to the Gallups!

Presidents weekend was a blast for us! Trevor and I decided that every three day weekend we would go on a road trip, so we were trying to decide where we wanted to go. We were going to go to California, then Las Vegas, but then decided on the good ol’ state of Idaho! A couple of Trevor’s mission buddies live in Idaho so we were going to do the whole Idaho tour and see all of the boys. However, Idaho

turned out to be much too big and the boys spread too far apart, so we only saw one buddy this weekend.

On Friday night we took off to Idaho Falls to see Elder Gallup and his wife Jamie. We pulled in around 11:00 pm and Elder Gallup and Trevor talked the night away reminiscing on the mission. Jamie and I sat there like good wives, fighting to keep our eyes open as these two energetic young chaps jumped around with excitement exchanging all their stories and memories until 4:00 am. It was really cute and it was fun to finally have a face to attach all the stories to.

The next day we woke up bright and early to a fantastic Idaho breakfast of hash browns with salsa, scrambled eggs, toast, and sausage. We needed to pack in the food to have enough energy to brave the snowy Idaho Mountains that we were to climb that day. We went snowshoeing up in Deer Valley or something like that. It was SOOOOO beautiful!!! The snow was SOOOOOOOO deep—like 10 feet deep.

We had a great time running all over the countryside. Caci enjoyed the snowshoeing once we got to run down the mountainside and jump off of cliffs.
That night we drove down to Pocatello where Jonathan and Jaime live and stayed the night with them attending church the next day. Boy it was fun! We love the Gallups alot. Check out their blog here. Soon a small video of out trip will be available.

Just a little tidbit today. I recently asked a question to this “internet guru” who is known all around the world for his knowledge. Because this guy literally gets hundreds of questions a day, very few get published on his website. Well, Mr. T asked such a profound question that it was right on his homepage. Check it out here: www.askdavetaylor.com
Now, it should be just a couple of questions down from the top entitled,

How do I get rid of the navigational toolbar on Blogspot?

To head directly to his answer click here. For you “bloggers” this is a helpful answer anyway.

On another note, what does everybody think about handing over the security of our six largest ports to an Arab company? Most news stations have a lot of coverage on this topic - here is an editorial on it by the Washington Times.
Finally, some little covered information that may be the most important. As many as 11 million Africans will starve this year as reported by the UN.

1st UPDATE: Here is the majority of Justin’s Talk at stake conference. I recorded it with my PDA so it wasn’t the best quality, but hey! It still works for posterity.
2nd UPDATE: We now have a small link to some honeymoon photos to the right under “links”. Check them out! You may also click here to view the photos.

Caci’s Version of Valentines Day

Valentines Day was so much fun! Trevor is SOOOO wonderful! It started out with breakfast in bed—I got up at 6:00 and made waffles and omelets, dying them both a festive PINK! However, the pink omelet turned out looking more like throw up than eggs. I would NOT recommend dying your eggs pink no matter how festive it might seem. So I surprised Trevor with breakfast in bed. However, he was MUCH too sick to eat anything, so unfortunately the beautiful pink waffles had to go to waste. And I don’t think he would have eaten the pink omelet/throwup even if he were as healthy (or hungry) as a horse.

From there I went to class and then class and then class and then class and then camped out at the library. Trevor was so patient. He doesn’t usually like it when school takes priority over things that are more important (i.e. our first Valentines Day) so I was really appreciative that I was able to still go to all my classes and study for my American Heritage test. Finally, I was ready to take the test around 6:00pm. I went to take it and realized my phone had died so I e-mailed Trevor telling him I would e-mail when I was done, around 7:30pm. I went in and took the test. It took me a little less than 2 hours and I was SOOOO stressed and anxious to get home because I didn’t want to waste Valentines Day! So I hurried out, and ran down the stairs.

At the bottom of the testing center stairs, right before you go out the door to look on the computer screen for your grade, there is this window that people leave things/notes for the test takers. As I approached, I thought, “Oh that would be SOOO awesome if Trevor left me something!” And then I went quickly by without even looking. I got out, looked at my score, then ran over to a computer to tell Trevor I was done. I e-mailed him then ran to where I said I would be (not waiting for a response in my hurry). Well, needless to say, we are a cell phone dependent world. I went to the wrong spot, he waited at the wrong spot, and we lost each other for the next 25 minutes. FINALLY we found each other and Trevor was a little bugged because I hadn’t waited for an e-mail response to get things situated, nor had I gone to the correct spot. Then he asked, “Did you get it?” “Get what?” He HAD left me something in the testing center!!! So a frustrated Trevor ran me back to the testing center to retrieve the card. It was a HUGE card—the biggest one there—standing straight up—if I had looked there was no way I could have missed it. What followed was an implorment from Trevor to “BE MORE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDEINGS.”

So, I was ecstatic about getting the cute card and finally being with him. We drove home and walked into the apartment. Trevor had been at work! I walked in and the house was all rearranged and clean and beautiful. He had set up a pink throne surrounded by lamps, with a “Happy Valentines” balloon on it. I ran over to it squealing with excitement for the balloon. Trevor then grabbed me and said, “Caci, BE AWARE.” So I looked around the house to see what else he had gotten me. I looked and looked and could not figure it out, all the while Trevor pleading for me to be aware. Finally, he spun me around until I was facing it directly (although I had been looking at it many times and just never saw it). It was the baker’s rack I wanted!!!!!!! SOOOOOOOOO cute!!!! I was TOTALLY surprised! On it he had made a beautiful arrangement of my other gifts—crystal earrings, a gorgeous flower kit for me to grow, a big chocolate heart saying “I Love You”. It was so sweet and arranged so beautifully and I loved everything.

We then took a tour of the house and he had rearranged it to give us a lot more space. It looked GREAT! He has an eye for beauty. He was so sweet and it was so wonderful! I then gave him his present—this book that he wanted called Joseph Smith: A Rough Stone Rolling. It was actually second on his list, the one he wanted #1 was the Joseph Smith Papyi Writings. (I went to exchange it at the Bookstore today but they are out until Monday… Bummer). And I made him this picture thing telling him all the reasons I love him with a picture of us in the middle. It is really cute. It is going to be our new Valentines Tradition for me to make him one every V-Day. It will be really fun to see how my reasons for loving him will change from our 1st year of marriage to our 40th year.

Trevor was really really sick so we got a movie and popsicles and stayed in for the remainder of the evening. We got “Dark Water” but were too afraid after 20 minutes and had to turn it off. It was such a great Valentines Day and I love Trevor so much.
